Ruby Tuesday is a lack luster place. The food wasn’t that bad, it was just ok, which may be worse, because there was truly nothing memorable. The sheer amount of customers missing in action on a Friday night scream warnings to a management that is clueless. In fact the manager visited every table in the place except ours. If that had been Chili’s the meal would have been free.
Chain restaurants like Tuesdays have come a long way. TGI Fridays, Chili’s, and Applebees, have large enough menus so that there is something for everyone, and it doesn’t break the bank. The food is more upscale than Tuesday’s like Jack Daniel’s ribs or skillet fajitas, as well as decent burgers and steaks. Not so at Ruby Tuesdays, they have kept it plain and boring .Even the salad bar was woefully lacking, just greens with very few condiments, we passed on it.
We got there around 10:00pm on a Friday night and although I didn’t expect to have to wait to be seated, I didn’t think I would be able to easily count the number of patrons. There were only four other tables with patrons. The lack of patrons made the place feel dull, there was no excitement or laughter, there was no buzz.
I asked our waitress to suggest a mixed drink, which she did, only to come back a few minutes later to tell us they were out of one of the ingredients and that drink was not available. If an empty restaurant does not have drink special on a friday night, you begin to have serious reservations about what else may be lacking. I don’t remember the name of the drink we did get but I do remember that it tasted like a watery fruit punch.
I had a petite steak ordered medium rare but it was cooked medium, lacked seasoning, and I had to practically beg for some steak sauce. The loaded bake had a dollop of sour cream and a drop of butter. Someone needs to let the chef know what loaded means. They were introducing their new cheese biscuits which come with every meal. They were good but very tiny and they brought them to us two at a time. Is there a bread basket shortage that I don’t know about?
My date had a burger and said it was ok and that about sums up the whole experience. There are too many restaurants for Ruby Tuesdays to be just ok. The recession has made competition tough and Tuesdays’s just isn’t cutting it. Save your money and go to one of the other chains, I know I won’t be back.
